Dr Ryan Sweke is the Alexander von Humboldt German Research Chair of Mathematics and its Applications at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) South Africa. He is also a senior lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Stellenbosch University, and an associate of the National Institute for Theoretical and Computational Sciences (NITheCS). Before joining AIMS South Africa, Dr Sweke spent just over two years as a Research Scientist at IBM Quantum, and before that five years as a post-doctoral fellow in the group of Jens Eisert at the Freie Universität Berlin.
Dr Sweke has broad research interests at the intersection of quantum computing, machine learning, cryptography and theoretical computer science. At AIMS South Africa, Dr Sweke leads the Quantum@AIMS research group.
