Siyabonga Mthimkulu

Siyabonga (Siya) Mthimkhulu is a doctoral candidate at African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) South Africa and the University of the Western Cape working in Higher Category Theory. His research focuses on fibrations of double categories. One of many significances of fibrations is that they provide a categorical framework for dependent type theory. Moreover, they give a formal abstract view for areas in software engineering such as Labelled Transition Systems, Algebraic Specifications, and Many-Sorted Algebras.

Apart from his research, Siya was a research chair for the Mathematics (Maths) Club at the University of the Western Cape. Furthermore, he was also appointed as a research assistant, a role that enabled him to expand the mathematics database for undergraduate students.
