Geometry Around Us: Workshop with Future Mathematics Teachers at UCT

On February 20, 2026, Dr Sinobia Kenny and Jadga Huege from SAP presented a workshop titled Geometry Around Us to Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) students at the University of Cape Town. The group consisted of pre-service teachers specialising in Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy.

The workshop focused on mathematical and computational thinking and invited students to consider how geometry can be seen and explored in the world around us. It was also an opportunity to talk about the expectations and responsibilities that come with entering the teaching profession.

The session was made possible by the School of Education at the University of Cape Town, with particular thanks to Yusuf Johnson for the invitation.

It was an engaging session and a privilege to work with future mathematics teachers. It was also heartening to see students who are choosing mathematics education as a career and preparing to enter classrooms where they will shape how learners experience mathematics.
