AT AIMS-T4T Joint Workshop

On Saturday, February 21, 2026, AT AIMS (the Algebra|Topology research group at AIMS South Africa) and T4T (Topology for Tomorrow) at the University of the Western Cape held a joint one-day workshop with the September intake students who attended the Topology course at AIMS earlier this year.

The workshop aimed to foster collaboration between the two research groups, whose memberships partly overlap, and to provide AIMS postgraduate students with insight into active research programmes at the intersection of modern algebra and topology.

The workshop began at 9:00 AM with a talk by Meva Rakotondratoetra (AIMS South Africa research student) on graph topological spaces and orders. This was followed by presentations from AIMS researchers Dr Jacques Rabie, Clinton Paye Quee, Joshua Passmore, Prof Karin-Therese Howell, and Siyabonga Mthimkhulu.

The talks covered topics including graph theory, abstract algebra (near vector spaces), general topology, pointfree topology, and category theory, reflecting the diverse research interests of the AT AIMS and T4T communities.

The talks concluded at 1:30 PM, after which participants continued discussions over lunch at Tiger’s Milk, bringing a lively and engaging day of mathematical exchange to a close.
