Workshop on Random Discrete Structures
From February 16 to 18, 2026, AIMS South Africa hosted the LMU-SU Workshop on Random Discrete Structures, organised in collaboration with Stellenbosch University and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU).
The workshop explored recent developments in random discrete structures, a field that grew from the pioneering work of Erdos and Renyi on random graphs and now plays an important role in areas such as network science, computer science, and statistical physics.
The programme included a mini-course by Konstantinos Panagiotou on random graphs from restricted classes, along with research talks by Tamas Makai, Julian Becker, and Julius Hallmann on topics ranging from multipartite hypergraphs to dispersion processes on random graphs.
The workshop aimed to strengthen collaboration between LMU and South African researchers while providing opportunities for mentorship and discussion among emerging scholars in discrete mathematics.
