Structured Master’s in Mathematical Science

AIMS offers an intensive ten-month Structured Master’s in Mathematical Sciences, accredited by the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, and the University of the Western Cape. Delivered in collaboration with leading international academics from across the world, the programme offers a rigorous and immersive learning experience. Students may choose between two streams: Mathematical Sciences or AI for Science. The programme is fully residential and highly intensive, fostering continuous interaction between students and lecturers.

Research Students

Beyond the structured Master’s, AIMS hosts a vibrant research community. MSc and PhD students based at the AIMS Research Centre are embedded within active research groups, participate in seminars and collaborative meetings, and often support the academic programme as Teaching Assistants.

Teaching at AIMS

AIMS South Africa works closely with scientists and academics who enrich the programme by teaching specialised courses or supervising student research. AIMS fully funds visiting lecturers to teach in Cape Town for three weeks at a time.

AIMS Library Series

AIMS South Africa also contributes to advancing mathematical education across the continent through the AIMS Library Series, which addresses the shortage of accessible, affordable mathematics textbooks in Africa. To date, eight titles have been published, supporting students, educators, and institutions throughout the region.
