The AIMS Library Series

The AIMS Library Series is a collection of concise, high-quality textbooks published by Cambridge University Press. The series was specifically created to address the shortage of affordable, high-level mathematical science textbooks in Africa. The books are designed to be accessible to students transitioning from undergraduate studies to graduate research, often originating from courses taught at AIMS. One of the primary goals is to keep prices low for African students and institutions. Each book typically introduces a specific field in pure or applied mathematics, providing both fundamental theory and advanced material to inspire further research. The series was edited by Professor Alan Beardon from the University of Cambridge.

Understanding Fluid Flow

Author: Grae Worster Publication Date: January 2010

Understanding Fluid Flow takes a fresh approach to introducing fluid dynamics, with physical reasoning and mathematical developments inextricably intertwined. The ‘dry’ fluid dynamics described by potential theory is set within the context of real viscous flows to give fundamental insight into how fluids behave. The book gives a flavour of theoretical, experimental and numerical approaches to analysing fluid flow, and implicitly develops skills in applied mathematical modelling of physical systems. It is supplemented by movies that are freely downloadable.
